2025 Cape Epic Unveils Route Changes

The 2025 Cape Epic route was unveiled today at a press conference in Cape Town, revealing significant changes to the eight-stage mountain bike race that draws over 1,200 riders annually from 60 countries.

New Stages

Stage 3 will bypass the traditional Oak Valley route, instead climbing the newly permitted Jonkershoek Nature Reserve trails. Race director Wayne Sobczuk confirmed the change adds 400 meters of elevation to an already demanding day.

The prologue returns to its traditional Table Mountain slopes after a two-year absence due to wildfire damage. Trail restoration completed last month following extensive volunteer efforts.

Entry Status

General entries sold out in 47 minutes when registration opened last month. Lottery entries for unseeded positions remain available through January 15, with approximately 200 spots allocated to the random selection process.

Charity entries through official foundation partners continue accepting applications. These packages start at $6,500 and include guaranteed entries regardless of lottery results.

Prize Money

Total prize purse increased to €125,000 with equal distribution between men’s and women’s categories. Stage winners now receive €750, up from €500 in previous editions.
